Pantone’s Viva Magenta Heralds The New Artifice

Every year I look forward to seeing Pantone’s Color of the Year unveiled and analysing what it could tell us about this moment in culture. In 2020 it was Classic Blue. …

I don’t usually write about price changes to products but a recent announcement concerning some of the best-value true wireless earbuds deserves a broader audience as the drop in price makes the Lypertek range of Bluetooth earbuds an even more compelling buy.

The Lypertek PurePlay Z5 are a superb pair of earbuds I reviewed back in February. At the time, I described them as a triumph, and they garnered some high praise from the audio press and were noted for their stunning sound quality and excellent performance.

Lypertek has announced a price reduction of the PurePlay Z5 and an update to its firmware. The new update includes an auto power-off setting which boosts overall battery life. There is also now a feature to customize the earbud controls for a more personalized user experience.

Meanwhile, the PurePlay Z7 earbuds released in June 2021, these audiophile quality true wireless earbuds focus on sound quality by using a triple hybrid driver configuration featuring two balanced armature drivers and one titanium-coated dynamic driver inside each housing.

I reviewed the Lypertek PurePlay Z7 in June 2021 and described them as epically sweet. The combination of three drivers earned the PurePlay Z7 some highly recommended awards for their balanced sound with a ‘dynamic’ and ‘vivid’ sound. With updates to the PureControl app, which has added auto power off and individual battery levels, the earbuds are compelling. The PurePlay Z7 are a revelation and at the new price level, they are a no-brainer.

Pricing & Availability: The Lypertek PurePlay Z5 are available now for a lower price of $99 / £99 / €99, representing a 20% reduction on the original price. Meanwhile, the PurePlay Z7 earbuds have been reduced from $199 / £199 / €199 to just $89 / $89 / €89. Grab a pair while you can.
