British speaker manufacturer KEF has been making great speakers since 1961; now the brand has teamed up with long-term collaborator Ross Lovegrove to produce the KEF Mu7 wireless headphones with KEF’s typical understated style.

Described as an exercise in engineering and aesthetic excellence, KEF has worked with Ross Lovegrove, a designer renowned for his innovative approach and flowing, sculptural forms; Lovegrove has created an over-ear headphone that is sleek and cool.

Available in Silver Grey and Charcoal Grey, the Mu7 headphones are precision-engineered from aluminum and feature a lightweight headband with a snug acoustic seal creating minimal ear pressure. Memory foam ear pads mold to the shape of the wearer’s head, improving the passive and active noise cancellation while boosting the bass response. A swivel point above the ear cups enables the headphones to be rotated and flattened, ideal for packing away in carry-on luggage.

A touchpad on the right earcup of the Mu7 allows the user to answer calls, skip tracks and adjust volume with a series of taps and swipes. The Mu7 headphones have been tuned by KEF’s engineers and include support for SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD audio codecs for high-resolution wireless sound.

Like all noise-canceling headphones, the KEF Mu7 is a closed-back design and each earcup has a full-range dynamic driver. The sophisticated Smart Active Noise Cancellation technology in the Mu7 uses multiple filters to capture environmental sound before applying a specialized algorithm to subtract individual frequencies.

For making clear hands-free phone calls, KEF has used Qualcomm’s Clear Voice Capture (cVc) technology to isolate the speaker’s voice while minimizing background noises that might be e picked up by the microphone.

Pricing & Availability: The new KEF Mu7 wireless headphones are available now and costs $399.99 / £349.
