Answer by Charlene Walters, PhD, Business Mentor, Consultant, Corporate Trainer & Author, on Quora:

With such a preponderance of remote and hybrid employees in today’s business world, this is an important question. We want all of our employees to feel like they are part of the team and that they are being treated equally.

Here are ten ways that managers can help extend the same values and benefits to remote employees:

  2. Holding regular team meetings and ensuring that everyone is in the loop in terms of critical data.
  3. Establishing guidelines that solidify communication parameters for remote and hybrid employees.
  4. Providing consistent, critical feedback to remote workers.
  5. Setting up a virtual “watercooler” and stopping in from time to time.
  6. Encouraging culture building activities like group health and exercise challenges, virtual book clubs, and Zoom happy hours.
  7. Scheduling an in-person meeting once a quarter (if possible) so that everyone can meet face-to-face.
  8. Sharing information regarding meetings and projects in a centralized location online.
  9. Establishing connectedness days where each manager reaches out to a set number of team members by phone.
  10. Saying hello and goodbye to employees at the stop and start of each day via communication channels such as Slack or a group chat.
